On August 24, 2025, Israel launched airstrikes on Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. Sanaa is controlled by the Houthi group, who are fighting against the Yemeni government and often clash with other countries in the region. The bombings were powerful and deadly, leaving six people dead and 86 injured, according to local health officials.

Why the Strikes Happened

Israel explained that the airstrikes were carried out as a retaliation. In the days leading up to the attack, Houthi fighters had fired surface-to-surface missiles and sent drones toward Israel. These missile and drone attacks raised serious security concerns in Israel.

Israeli leaders called the Houthis a “terrorist regime” and said they had to respond strongly to protect their people. They described the strikes as necessary to stop further attacks.

What Places Were Hit in Sanaa

  • Reports said the Israeli military targeted important sites in the capital. The main places hit included:
  • A military compound that contains the presidential palace.
  • Two power plants, named Asar and Hizaz.
  • A fuel storage site.
  • These targets were chosen because Israel said they were connected to Houthi operations.

What People in the City Saw and Felt

The strikes left the city in chaos. People living near the presidential palace said they heard extremely loud explosions. One resident described the shock as so strong that windows shattered and walls shook inside houses.

Others saw a giant fireball rising into the air, with thick black smoke covering the sky. The fear spread quickly among families, many of whom rushed outside their homes, unsure if more bombs were coming.

The Houthi Response

After the strikes, Houthi leaders reacted angrily. They admitted they had fired missiles, but said they did it to show support for Palestinians in Gaza, who are currently facing a long and painful conflict with Israel.

The Houthis declared that even after the airstrikes, they would not stop backing Gaza, no matter the risks. Their statement showed they were determined to continue their involvement.

Why This Matters for the Region

The attack is important because it shows how the war in Gaza is spreading to other countries. What began as a conflict between Israel and Hamas has now pulled in groups like the Houthis from Yemen.

  • Wider War Risk: Yemen is far from Israel, but the strikes prove the war is crossing borders. This could make the Middle East even more unstable.
  • Civilian Danger: Bombing in crowded cities like Sanaa puts many ordinary people in harm’s way. The dead and injured were not only fighters, but also regular citizens.
  • Tension Grows: With more deaths and destruction, peace seems very far away. Each side promises not to back down, which could mean more attacks in the future.

Location What Happened

  • Sanaa, Yemen Israeli airstrikes hit palace, power plants, and a fuel site
  • Deaths/Injuries    Six killed, 86 injured
  • Reason  Retaliation for Houthi missile and drone attacks on Israel

The bombings in Yemen on August 24 show how dangerous and complicated the Middle East conflict has become. Israel struck deep into the Houthis’ territory, killing six people and hurting many more.

For families in Sanaa, the night was filled with terror—explosions, broken glass, smoke, and fire in the sky. For Israel, the strikes were a warning meant to stop Houthi attacks. For the Houthis, it became another reason to promise more support for Gaza.

This chain of violence shows how a war in one place can spread to others, pulling more countries and more people into danger. The future looks tense, with no clear sign of peace ahead.
