Mattel Revives Masters of the Universe Action Figures Ahead of Film Launch

Post by : Mina Rahman

Mattel is resurrecting the iconic Masters of the Universe action figures, unveiling a new toy line linked to its much-anticipated live-action movie. This strategic move follows the remarkable success of Mattel's 2023 release, Barbie, which grossed over $1.4 billion and received an Academy Award.

The toy company aims to reinvigorate its classic brands, with a slate of more than a dozen films currently underway. Building on the excitement generated by the Masters of the Universe movie teaser—which has racked up over 30 million views online—Mattel has seized this optimal moment to bring back a beloved franchise.

First launched in the 1980s, the Masters of the Universe toy line continues to hold a cherished place among fans. The Chief Global Brand Officer at Mattel asserted that this relaunch was strategically timed to honor the franchise's legacy meaningfully.

Directed by Oscar-nominated Travis Knight, the upcoming film features Nicholas Galitzine as the valiant He-Man, alongside prominent actors like Jared Leto as the villain Skeletor, and Idris Elba, Alison Brie, and Camila Mendes.

Set to be available worldwide starting in April, the new action figures spotlight beloved characters such as He-Man, Skeletor, and Evil-Lyn, with a price point of approximately $25. These toys are expected to arrive in stores two months prior to the film's theatrical release, allowing fans to revisit the enchanting world of this timeless franchise.
