A recent United States intelligence report has raised concerns about possible Iranian attacks against the United States after the confirmed death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The report suggests that Iran and groups loyal to it may seek retaliation, although a full-scale military strike on US soil is seen as unlikely.
The intelligence assessment was prepared by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It was shared with officials and reviewed by news agencies. The report says that Iran and some of its allied groups “probably” pose a threat of targeted actions inside the United States. However, large and direct physical attacks — like invading or striking large American cities — are not expected in the near future.
According to the assessment, the more likely danger comes from smaller operations. These could include cyberattacks on websites, attempts to overload networks, or other digital efforts that disrupt online services. Hackers who support Iran might try to damage US digital systems, especially if they believe the country is under threat or want to show support for Iran’s cause.
The report also notes that Iran and its proxy forces might continue targeting US and allied interests in the Middle East. This could involve attacks on military bases, diplomatic sites, or other strategic targets in the region. Iran has already engaged in missile and drone strikes against countries in the Gulf that host US military forces.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said federal agencies are working closely together to watch for and defend against any possible threats on American soil. She emphasized that US intelligence and law enforcement groups are monitoring suspicious activity and taking steps to prevent harm.
Iran confirmed reports that its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, died following a joint military strike by the United States and Israel. His death has deepened tensions in an already volatile region. Iran has responded with attacks in several Middle Eastern countries, and fighting has spread further as allied groups like Hezbollah carry out strikes against Israeli targets.
In the United States, officials are also watching events at home for possible links to Middle East tensions. Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in Austin, Texas, to learn whether it was motivated by the broader conflict. Images show the shooter wearing clothing seen as supportive of Iran, though investigators continue to gather facts.
The intelligence warning does not predict a major war on US soil, but it does highlight the risk of smaller, targeted attacks that could cause harm or disruption. The report makes it clear that the risk is real enough that US security agencies must remain alert and prepared.
The global situation remains fragile. Middle Eastern countries where US forces are based have seen attacks and counterattacks. Regional instability is growing as nations respond to both military actions and political shifts following Khamenei’s death. This dangerous climate means governments around the world must carefully watch developments and work together to prevent further escalation.
