The American president has strongly cautioned Iran, stating that "time is running out" for a resolution concerning its nuclear ambitions amid a considerable increase in US military assets in the Gulf.
Donald Trump alluded to a "massive armada" advancing purposefully towards Iran, particularly highlighting the prominent US naval group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, poised for rapid response if necessary.
In retaliation, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that the nation’s military forces are on high alert and prepared to react swiftly to any land or maritime provocations. Iran asserts that its nuclear agenda is peaceful and refutes US claims of seeking weapons of mass destruction.
Trump's warning follows a severe crackdown on demonstrations in Iran, triggered by the currency's sharp drop and transforming into a broader challenge to the government. He extended US support to those affected, proclaiming that "Help is on the way," even as reports indicate a halt to executions of protesters.
Human rights organizations estimate thousands have perished amid the turmoil, with some sources suggesting fatalities could exceed 25,000.
Focusing on the nuclear issue, Trump advised Tehran to "Come to the Table" for equitable negotiations aiming for "NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS." He warned that any forthcoming US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities would bring consequences far greater than those previously experienced.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the Iranian administration as weaker than ever, grappling with economic collapse and unable to meet the demands of protesters. He emphasized that US forces are ready to counter any Iranian threats in the region.
Iranian officials have once again expressed their readiness to engage in fair negotiations for a nuclear agreement devoid of duress while affirming their right to pursue peaceful nuclear technology. They categorically denied any intentions of developing nuclear arms.
In the meantime, satellite imagery and open-source intelligence reflect an uptick in US military footing in the Middle East. Fighter jets have recently deployed to Jordan, new air defense systems established in Qatar, and numerous naval vessels anchored in Bahrain. Additionally, US drones and reconnaissance aircraft are active near Iranian airspace.
Iran has also stationed its drone carrier vessel IRIS Shahid Bagheri close to its coastline, showcasing its readiness to engage.
Since the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement in 2018, Iran has exceeded uranium enrichment thresholds, escalating tensions further. The most recent US operation targeting Iranian nuclear assets occurred last June, which Washington claimed stifled Iran's nuclear capabilities, although Iran argued the strike had minimal effect.
In retaliation, Iran targeted a US base in Qatar with missiles, an act Trump regarded as "very weak" and anticipated.
The situation remains fraught as both nations engage in military and diplomatic maneuvers, with global attention fixed on whether Iran will consent to renewed discussions or find itself under mounting pressure.
