In a delightful surprise, Aamir Khan Productions has unveiled their latest film, Happy Patel: Khatranakh Jasoos, marking the directorial debut of acclaimed comedian Vir Das, who also stars alongside Mona Singh. The highlight of the announcement video is undoubtedly the unexpected return of Imran Khan, who has not appeared on screen for a decade. His last project was Katti Batti in 2015, followed by directing a short film in 2018.
The video features a tense exchange between Aamir Khan and Vir Das, where Aamir expresses his disappointment over the missing action, romance, and dance elements he expected from the film. Despite Vir’s attempts to defend his work, Aamir dismisses it as a disaster.
However, the mood shifts dramatically when audience members exit a theater, enthused and declaring that the film is packed with action, romance, and a catchy item number. This unexpected endorsement dispels Aamir's earlier concerns and sets a lighthearted tone for the project.
As the video wraps up, viewers catch glimpses of Vir Das, Mona Singh, and Imran Khan in character, culminating in the release date reveal: January 16, 2026. Imran’s brief cameo has created significant buzz, as fans have eagerly anticipated his return.
Imran Khan, renowned for his charming roles in films such as Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, I Hate Luv Storys, and Break Ke Baad, stepped back from acting after the disappointing reception of Katti Batti.
While it was reported in April 2025 that he has been filming a new Netflix project alongside Bhumi Pednekar, Imran emphasized that his return to the screen is not driven by fame but rather a sincere evolution influenced by his personal growth following his divorce.
Vir Das, previously known for his roles in Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, and Badmaash Company, is taking the helm as director for the first time. The nostalgic connection extends further as Aamir Khan produced Delhi Belly, in which Imran featured.
While Vir is cast in a leading role, Imran will appear in a special cameo, with Mona Singh expected to add both depth and humor to the story.
The film promises to be a unique blend of quirky humor and captivating storytelling, with Aamir Khan Productions at the helm. Anticipation is building as fans look forward to both Vir Das’s directorial journey and the return of Imran Khan.
As the release date approaches, excitement will undoubtedly reach new heights. For now, the whimsical announcement video has captured attention online, effectively generating buzz for what is set to be one of the most intriguing films in the near future.
