Post by : Bianca Suleiman

FIFA, the global authority for football, has declared a 15% hike in financial support for the 48 teams set to participate in forthcoming international tournaments hosted in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

As part of this new framework, preparation funding for national teams will rise from $1.5 million to $2.5 million, while qualification compensation increases from $9 million to $10 million. Additionally, support for team delegation expenses and expanded ticket allocations will surpass $16 million.

The organization confirmed that any surplus revenue will be allocated among its 211 member associations.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted that the organization enjoys its most robust financial standing to date, emphasizing that these funds will be reinvested for the enhancement of global football.

Major Governance and Competition Updates

FIFA also ratified several significant changes and announcements:

  • The Afghan Women’s Refugee Team will now be eligible to take part in official FIFA competitions due to a governance change.

  • In the FIFA World Cup 2026, single yellow cards will be nullified after the group stage and once more after the quarter-finals.

  • Armenia and Georgia have been designated as hosts for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029.

  • Miami, USA, will serve as the venue for the final stage of the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, scheduled from January 27 to 31.

  • The FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026 will take place in Qatar from November 19 to December 13.
