The Department of Planning and Development – Trakhees, part of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has bolstered safety measures through a series of rigorous inspections conducted throughout 2025.
Through the efforts of its Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) Department, Trakhees launched a comprehensive inspection initiative focusing on industrial, commercial, and public health entities. This program aimed to enhance workplace safety, optimize operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
In 2025 alone, Trakhees executed 16,021 field inspections in addition to 15,627 document verification activities. Such extensive efforts culminated in a remarkable compliance rate of 94.06%, revealing that 5.94% of establishments did not meet required standards.
The inspection program spanned various sectors including manufacturing, heavy industry, chemical production, logistics, hospitality, and public health services such as healthcare and personal care facilities. Labor accommodations and community resources were also included in these inspections.
Inspectors focused on multiple critical areas such as operational safety, standards for machinery and equipment, emergency readiness, worker protection, hygiene practices, and environmental health. Special care was taken regarding high-risk operations necessitating strict safety protocols.
H.E. Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Belhoul, CEO of Trakhees, noted that the inspection initiative underscores the department's unwavering commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and fostering a secure working environment. He asserted that these actions are vital in reducing risks and supporting sustainable business operations.
Additionally, Belhoul indicated that Trakhees is dedicated to continuously enhancing its regulatory framework by incorporating global best practices, increasing the frequency of inspections, and improving monitoring techniques. The department collaborates closely with various sectors to cultivate a robust culture of health and safety compliance.
For establishments that were non-compliant, violation notices were issued with clear timelines for corrective action. This is essential for managing risks effectively and ensuring that necessary measures are taken to avert future violations.
Overall, the inspection campaign reflects Trakhees’ proactive stance on ensuring safety, safeguarding workers and communities, and establishing a dependable and sustainable business landscape.
