In a significant drug trafficking case, a married couple alongside another individual has faced charges in Malaysia regarding the trafficking of 510 kilograms of methamphetamine. The accused, identified as Mohd Rizuan Ramli, Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah, appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in Kangar.
These charges stem from an event on March 24 in Wang Kelian, where authorities allege that this trio instigated the trafficking of 510,000 grams of meth. The narcotics were reportedly found near a junction of a TNB substation on Jalan Wang Kelian, close to Padang Besar.
No pleas were entered during this court appearance since drug trafficking cases of this severity fall under the purview of the High Court. The accused acknowledged the charges as they were presented by Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
The case is being prosecuted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, recognized as one of Malaysia’s strictest anti-drug statutes. If convicted, the defendants could be sentenced to death or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
The court has denied bail to all three individuals, underscoring the gravity of the accusations. The subsequent court mention is set for July 2, pending a chemical analysis report's completion.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan is spearheading the prosecution, while the accused are defended by counsel Nur Iman Nor Azmi. Authorities are treating this case as a significant operation within drug trafficking networks.
