Renee Nicole Good Fatally Shot by ICE Agent in Minneapolis

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

A tragic incident occurred in Minneapolis when 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was shot by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an enforcement operation on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Good, who resided in the Twin Cities region, was shot mere blocks from her residence. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that the confrontation took place after officers were obstructed while executing their duties.

Details of the ICE Operation

DHS officials stated that officers ordered Good to exit her SUV. Video evidence shows officers struggling to open the driver's door when the vehicle momentarily reversed before advancing. Gunfire erupted as the SUV collided with a parked vehicle.

According to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Good allegedly ignored multiple commands and aimed her vehicle at an ICE officer, an act described as a serious threat. An officer was injured during the incident and received hospital treatment but has since been released.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that Good was shot during the incident. Both the FBI and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the events.

About Renee Nicole Good

Good was living in Minneapolis with her partner, and she was a mother to a six-year-old. Her family described her as “one of the kindest people.” Her mother, Donna Ganger, spoke of Good's compassion and warmth, calling her an “amazing human being.”

A graduate of Old Dominion University in 2020 with a degree in English, Good had a passion for creative writing and was awarded the university's undergraduate poetry prize for her piece, “On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs.” University President Brian Hemphill remarked on her death as indicative of the growing climate of fear and violence in society.

Originally from Colorado Springs, Good enjoyed writing, watching films, and engaging in art. Her social media presence reflected her identities as a poet, writer, spouse, and mother based in Minneapolis.

Previously married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr, who passed away in 2023, she shared a child with him.

Reactions and Response

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged caution regarding misinformation about the incident, stating he had seen the available video footage. He emphasized that the situation is under thorough investigation and that facts should surface without rush.
