Seventeen TTP Militants Eliminated by Pakistani Security Forces in Bannu Operations

Post by : Raina Nasser

In a significant crackdown on terrorism, Pakistani security forces confirmed the elimination of at least 17 militants affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during several coordinated operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bannu district on Saturday. These operations focused on identified militant locations in the Sheri Khel and Pakka Pahar Khel areas, following actionable intelligence regarding extremist activities.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed reported that a joint task force, comprising Lakki Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Bannu, and additional security agencies, effectively neutralized ten militants. Five others sustained injuries, while one facilitator was apprehended. The bodies of seven militants were retrieved; however, three remain uncollected due to difficult mountainous terrain.

In another eight-hour operation conducted simultaneously by Bannu Police, CTD, and allied security forces, seven more militants were killed, along with various injuries among others. Remarkably, all personnel involved in the operations returned unharmed. Local residents reportedly offered full support to security teams, enhancing the overall success of the initiatives.

Authorities successfully confiscated an extensive array of weapons and explosives from the militants, significantly undermining their operational capacity. This cache comprised firearms, ammunition, and components for crafting improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In a related development, police expertly defused a 10-kg bomb located within a ghee tin at Aabshar Chowk in Bannu. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sajjad Khan remarked that the swift actions of the Bomb Disposal Squad averted a potentially catastrophic incident for local citizens and passersby.

These operations are part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province historically known for militant activities. Authorities reaffirm their resolve to eradicate extremist elements and uphold peace in the area. Security forces remain vigilant in scanning for lingering threats, noting that community collaboration is critical to the success of such operations.

These focused actions coincide with heightened counter-terrorism vigilance across Pakistan, involving coordinated efforts between police, military, and counter-terror units aimed at dismantling militant networks and averting future violence.
