A Russian drone attack struck Ukraine’s southern Odesa region overnight, injuring four people, including three children, according to Ukrainian officials. The strike damaged apartment buildings and key infrastructure, once again showing how civilians continue to suffer as the war drags on.
Local authorities said the attack happened late at night when people were at home. Odesa is a major port city on the Black Sea and has been a frequent target of Russian missiles and drones since the war began nearly four years ago.
Oleh Kiper, the governor of the Odesa region, said drones hit residential areas as well as logistics and energy facilities. He explained that several buildings were damaged by falling drone debris and direct hits. Windows were shattered, and parts of building facades were destroyed.
Serhiy Lisak, head of the city’s military administration, confirmed that four people were injured in the attack. Among them were a seven-month-old baby, two other children, and a 42-year-old man. All were taken for medical care. Officials did not give details about their conditions but said emergency teams responded quickly.
Photos shared by local officials showed smoke rising from a high-rise apartment building during the night. Flames could be seen in several windows as firefighters worked to control the fire. Water jets were aimed at the building to stop the blaze from spreading further.
Odesa has faced repeated attacks throughout the conflict. Russian strikes have often targeted ports, energy systems, and transport routes that are vital for Ukraine’s economy. Residential neighborhoods have also been hit, causing fear and hardship for civilians who live far from the front lines.
Ukrainian authorities said the attack underlined the continued danger faced by ordinary families. Children, they said, are among the most vulnerable victims of the conflict.
Reuters was not able to independently verify the reports, and there was no immediate comment from Russia regarding the strike.
As fighting continues, residents in cities like Odesa remain on alert, hoping for peace while enduring another harsh night shaped by the sound of drones and explosions.
