This evening, a significant blaze broke out in Srinagar's Barzalla area, affecting several commercial properties, with a carpet manufacturing facility among them, officials reported.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire started at a junkyard and quickly spread to nearby buildings containing highly combustible items like foam, paint, thinner, and carpets. The intensity of the flames created thick black smoke, visible from several kilometers away.
Fire and Emergency Services dispatched numerous fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters engaged in a prolonged battle against the flames, executing a challenging effort to keep the fire from reaching nearby residential areas.
During the firefighting operations, two firefighters were injured and promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently stable.
Senior officials from both the administration and the fire department arrived to supervise the situation and manage relief efforts.
Officials have stated that while the fire has largely been contained, cooling measures are still in effect, as some parts of the affected buildings continue to smolder. The cause of the fire is not yet determined and will be investigated further.
