The 10th installment of the Xposure International Photography Festival 2026 is set to unveil a dedicated Documentary Zone. This unique section will shine a light on extensive visual narratives developed through rigorous research and storytelling. It will host 13 exhibitions featuring photographers who tackle pressing issues such as climate change, conflict, displacement, collective memory, identity, and cultural heritage.

Attendees will delve into photography that serves as a profound visual narrative, accentuating the importance of ethical practices and truthful representation. Additionally, the festival will offer enlightening talks and workshops, allowing photographers to share insights on project conceptualization, fieldwork in challenging settings, and responsible storytelling methods.

Environmental Change and Climate Challenges

Renowned photographers featured in the Documentary Zone include Michael Yamashita (of National Geographic fame), Tomasz Tomaszewski, Philippe Chancel, and Anush Babajanyan. Their exhibitions will address the environmental changes impacting various communities. Highlights include studies on coastal erosion, diminishing lakes, and shifts in agricultural methods, reflecting the deep connection between humans and their environment.

Conflict and Social Transformation

The exhibitions will also cover themes of war, displacement, and political upheaval, capturing the resilience of communities in rebuilding their lives post-conflict. This photography endeavors to encapsulate the reality that exists beyond media headlines.

Memory, Identity, and Cultural Traditions

Works in this category delve into the relationship individuals have with their cultural and urban settings. From sacred rituals and religious observances to the remnants of abandoned structures, photography plays a pivotal role in documenting memories and identities over time.

Science and Visual Research

Several exhibitions will transform scientific findings into compelling visual narratives, addressing subjects such as polar regions, aquatic ecosystems, and climate research, thus bridging the gap between empirical data and public comprehension while upholding accuracy.
