The State of Qatar participated in the ninth session of the Global Coalition for the Achievement of the Two-State Solution, convened in Brussels, Belgium. This significant meeting gathered high-ranking international officials, featuring EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas alongside Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost.
Representing Qatar, Acting Charge d'Affaires to the European Union, Sarah bint Ahmed Al Mohannadi, underscored the nation’s steadfast commitment to initiatives geared towards establishing peace in the region.
In her remarks, Al Mohannadi expressed gratitude to the European Union for the event and Belgium for its generous hosting. She commended the ongoing global efforts to keep the Palestinian question prominent on the international agenda.
She emphasized the necessity of regular coalition meetings to enhance international unity and advance actionable steps toward realizing the two-state solution. This framework envisions the founding of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 boundaries, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring the right of return for Palestinian refugees per UN Resolution 194.
Al Mohannadi also pointed out Qatar’s influential role in mediation efforts related to Gaza and its involvement in global initiatives, including a suggested 20-point strategy. She noted Qatar’s endorsement of the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, underscoring its implementation.
Qatar lauded the launch of the Peace Council and its associated committees, declaring a financial pledge of $1 billion to bolster endeavors aimed at achieving comprehensive and enduring peace.
She expressed endorsement for UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and a US-supported peace blueprint, asserting that all UN member states are accountable for their execution. Meanwhile, she voiced concerns over Israel’s conduct, including ceasefire breaches, its ongoing presence in Gaza, and obstacles to humanitarian aid.
Regarding humanitarian circumstances, Al Mohannadi urged for the full reopening of the Rafah crossing to facilitate the safe transit of civilians and the steady flow of aid. She cautioned against political manipulation of border crossings, emphasizing the plight of critically ill patients stranded in Gaza.
She reaffirmed Qatar’s profound support for UNRWA, warning that hindering its operations jeopardizes the global humanitarian infrastructure. Al Mohannadi called on the international community to ensure the agency's uninterrupted operations.
Moreover, she denounced Israeli actions in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and land annexation, labeling them violations of international law that threaten peace dialogues.
Al Mohannadi cautioned against imposing new realities in the region amid global crises, specifically in sensitive locations like the West Bank and Al-Aqsa Mosque, as this could escalate tensions and instability.
In conclusion, she stressed that sustainable peace is achievable only through addressing the underlying causes of the conflict, ending occupation, and allowing Palestinian people to realize their right to self-determination. Qatar will persist in collaborating with global partners to support humanitarian projects, revitalization, and enduring peace.
