A recent opinion poll in the United States shows that only about one in four Americans supports the military strikes against Iran. This survey highlights growing concern among US citizens about the use of force and the widening conflict in the Middle East.
The poll, carried out by Reuters and Ipsos, was conducted shortly after the United States and Israel launched large-scale attacks against Iran. The strikes targeted military and other strategic sites and resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Many Americans have heard about these recent developments.
According to the results, only 27 percent of adults said they approved of the strikes. Meanwhile, 43 percent said they disapproved, and 29 percent said they were not sure how they felt. This shows that a significant number of people in the US are either opposed to the attacks or uncertain about them.
The poll also asked people whether they believe President Donald Trump is too willing to use military force to pursue US interests. A strong majority — 56 percent of respondents — said they think the president uses force too often. This view was shared by many across different political groups, though it was strongest among Democrats.
Support for the strikes was higher among some Republicans, but even within that group many Americans expressed caution. The poll found that even some Republican voters would be less likely to support the campaign if US troops were harmed. This suggests that worry about American casualties is a key factor shaping public opinion.
Another concern among many respondents was the impact of the conflict on everyday life. Nearly half of those surveyed said they would be less likely to support the military campaign if it led to higher fuel and energy prices at home. Rising costs of gasoline and oil could affect families’ budgets and the economy, making the conflict even more unpopular domestically.
Experts say this poll reflects broader trends in American attitudes toward foreign wars. Many people prefer that the United States focus on domestic issues such as jobs, healthcare, and the economy rather than engage in prolonged military operations abroad. Approval for foreign intervention tends to drop when there is a risk of loss of life or rising costs for everyday goods.
The poll results come at a critical moment, with ongoing conflict in the Middle East affecting oil markets, global trade, and regional stability. As the situation continues to unfold, the views of the American public could influence how political leaders shape their strategies, especially in the months ahead.
The division of opinion also points to larger questions about how the United States engages in global security matters. Many Americans want strong national defense, but there is also strong concern about how and when military power is used. As discussions about the conflict continue, these public views will play a part in shaping the national debate.
