The United Nations (UN) and its humanitarian partners have started a new emergency plan to help 114 million people around the world who are in serious danger. These people are facing big problems like hunger, war, and natural disasters.
This new plan is called a hyper-prioritised global appeal. It focuses only on the most urgent needs. The UN is asking for $29 billion to carry out this plan. This appeal is part of a larger plan called the Global Humanitarian Overview 2025, which was first launched in December. The full plan covers more than 70 countries and areas that are struggling, including places where many refugees live.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that this new appeal was needed because of massive cuts in funding. Many countries and donors have reduced the money they give for global aid. These cuts have caused a major problem for the humanitarian sector.
Tom Fletcher, who is the Emergency Relief Coordinator at the UN, said these money cuts have left the organization with very tough choices. “Too many people won’t get the help they need,” he said, “but we will do our best to save as many lives as we can with the money we have.”
The UN is hoping that by sharing this urgent and focused plan, donors will understand how serious the situation is and will provide the funds quickly. Without this support, millions of lives remain at risk.
