In a significant move to bolster economic and diplomatic relations with Europe, Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul recently led a pivotal policy meeting in Paris, engaging with ambassadors and consuls general from 24 European nations. This high-level dialogue primarily aimed at hastening the Thailand-European Union Free Trade Agreement, while exploring enhanced diplomatic initiatives.
Officials noted that this meeting marked a landmark conversation, as it was the first occasion where the Prime Minister and deputy prime ministers directly interacted with Team Thailand representatives throughout Europe. The extensive discussions spanned over three hours, addressing critical areas such as economic collaboration, trade growth, diplomacy, investment, and regional advancement.
Central to the agenda was the urgency behind the Thailand-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which the government has prioritized significantly. The Prime Minister underscored that this agreement would serve to lower tariffs, enhance market accessibility, and generate fresh opportunities for Thai exports and businesses targeting the European market.
Moreover, the government revealed plans to synchronize various ministries and agencies into cohesive “clusters” to streamline negotiations and enhance policy execution. Diplomats reported that Thailand is regaining attention internationally as a dependable economic and strategic ally within the global supply chain.
Prime Minister Anutin also introduced what he termed “Diplomacy 2.0,” a forward-thinking foreign policy framework centered around security, economy, environment, society, and humanitarian outreach. He highlighted the necessity for diplomacy to yield transparent and tangible advantages for the populace and local businesses.
In addition, Thailand’s leadership reiterated its commitment to modernizing its national regulations to meet Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) standards, aiming for completion within three years, aligning with its broader ambition for OECD membership and enhanced competitiveness on the global stage.
Moreover, the government showcased Thailand's advantages in sectors such as food security, clean energy, and regional logistics, and is preparing to host a series of notable global events later this year, including Gastech 2026, the World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings, and the Global Wellness Summit.
Authorities believe that these international gatherings and economic advancements will bolster investor confidence and cement Thailand's status as a strategic hub in Southeast Asia. The Prime Minister concluded by calling on all Thai agencies and diplomatic missions in Europe to collaborate as “Team Thailand” to further enhance the nation’s profile on the international arena.
