Explosion Near Quetta Railway Station Injures 20 People

Post by : Shweta

An explosion near Chaman Phatak railway station in Quetta, Balochistan province, resulted in injuries to at least 20 individuals. The blast caused extensive damage, affecting train coaches, vehicles, and nearby infrastructure. Security teams and emergency personnel quickly converged on the scene, conducting rescue efforts for several hours.

Local authorities reported that the explosion occurred as a train passed the area, leading to partial damage to the locomotive and the derailment of several coaches. Reports indicate that two train cars turned over due to the powerful blast. Nearby buildings suffered shattered windows and glass, while approximately 10 parked vehicles were also damaged.

In response to the incident, emergency protocols were enacted at key hospitals across Quetta, with medical staff mobilized to treat the injured individuals brought in from the scene. Officials confirmed that several casualties were in critical condition and receiving urgent medical attention.

Railway officials halted the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express at Quetta Railway Station as a safety measure post-explosion. Security forces cordoned off the area and initiated searches for any potential explosive materials or threats. Bomb disposal experts and forensic teams were deployed to investigate the explosion's cause and collect pertinent evidence.

Preliminary reports suggested the possibility of a suicide attack targeting a train transporting security personnel and their families. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) later claimed responsibility for the blast, although authorities are still investigating to confirm all details. Officials noted that the attack seemed directed at disrupting railway infrastructure and security movements in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the act as cowardly terrorism, asserting that such violence would not hinder Pakistan's resolve against extremism. President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed condolences and called for ensuring adequate medical care for victims.

Balochistan has experienced an uptick in militant violence in recent years, with separatist factions often targeting railway lines and state facilities. Security analysts warn that this rise in attacks has intensified pressure on Pakistan’s security forces, particularly in regions bordering Afghanistan and Iran. This latest explosion raises further concerns regarding public and railway safety in an increasingly volatile area.
