Hanoi, Vietnam – Vietnam’s Sun PhuQuoc Airways has placed a $22.5 billion order with Boeing for 40 787-9 Dreamliner jets. This move marks one of the largest aircraft purchases in Southeast Asia and signals the airline’s plan to expand globally.
The airline said the new planes will enable it to operate long-distance international flights, including routes between Vietnam and the United States. The Dreamliner’s long range and fuel efficiency make it ideal for connecting Vietnam to major cities around the world.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner can carry roughly 280 to 300 passengers and features advanced technology that reduces fuel consumption and noise. Airlines around the world favor it for long-haul flights because it is comfortable for passengers and efficient for operations.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a relatively young airline, currently operates domestic and regional flights. The new order is part of a wider plan to modernize its fleet and compete on international routes. Officials say the addition of these planes will strengthen Vietnam’s presence in global aviation and expand travel options for both tourists and business travelers.
Vietnam’s aviation sector has grown rapidly in recent years, recovering quickly from pandemic-related slowdowns. Rising demand for international travel and a growing middle class make the country an attractive market for airlines investing in modern, long-range aircraft.
Boeing also benefits from the deal, adding to its Dreamliner production schedule. The 787 model is one of Boeing’s most successful aircraft, known for passenger comfort, efficiency, and advanced technology.
The delivery of the 40 aircraft will take place over several years, allowing Sun PhuQuoc Airways to gradually build its intercontinental network. Analysts say this order shows the airline’s confidence in Vietnam’s future passenger growth and the global aviation market.
This agreement is a clear step toward turning Sun PhuQuoc Airways into a major international carrier. It also reflects the airline’s commitment to modern, fuel-efficient aircraft that meet rising passenger demand while keeping operating costs manageable.
