The Sharjah Cultural Forum is making its mark across Arab cities, solidifying its mission to acknowledge the achievements of Arab intellectuals and artists in their native environments.
Recently held in Amman under the kind patronage of Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the 26th edition celebrated the accomplishments of four eminent Jordanian personalities.
The honourees comprised translator Dr. Mohammed Asfour, critic Dr. Nayef Al Ajlouni, writer and heritage researcher Dr. Ahmad Sharif Al Zoubi, and poet Mariam Al Saifi. This initiative underscores Sharjah’s dedication to honoring literary figures who have significantly impacted modern Arab culture.
This event marks the sixth occasion the forum has convened in Jordan, further enhancing the cultural partnership between the UAE and Jordan. The ceremony took place at the National Library Department in Amman, attracting a diverse crowd of cultural leaders, scholars, and officials.
Notable attendees included Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, alongside representatives from the Jordanian Ministry of Culture. The event highlighted the robust bilateral rapport and common cultural values shared by the two nations.
In his remarks, Al Owais delivered greetings from the Ruler of Sharjah, accentuating the forum’s expanding role as a distinguished platform to honor creativity and advocate knowledge as a key to human advancement. He depicted the gathering as a testament to successful collaboration among cultural institutions in both realms.
Dr. Nayef Al Ajlouni, representing the honourees, shared words of thanks for the recognition, emphasizing that the forum fosters a broader intellectual and cultural discourse across the Arab sphere beyond individual accolades.
The ceremony drew to a close with the distribution of certificates of appreciation, endorsed by the Ruler of Sharjah, signifying the honourees’ invaluable contributions to literature and intellect.
An accompanying exhibition provided insights into the publications from the Sharjah Department of Culture, featuring cultural magazines and literary works that embody the emirate’s ongoing mission to enrich the Arab cultural milieu.
