Saudi Arabia has strongly spoken out against Iran for attacking a US military base in Qatar. The missile strike happened late Monday night, near Qatar’s capital, Doha.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said the country fully supports Qatar. The Kingdom called Iran’s attack wrong and said it was against international laws and the values of being a good neighbor. “It is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances,” the statement said.
Saudi Arabia also said it is ready to help Qatar in any way and will support all steps Qatar decides to take.
What Happened?
Iran fired missiles at US military bases in two countries — Qatar and Iraq — on Monday night. This was in response to an earlier attack by the United States. The US had bombed three important nuclear sites in Iran — Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan — on Sunday morning. These bombs caused a lot of damage, and Iran had warned it would strike back.
Iran named its missile attack “Annunciation of Victory.” It said it used the same number of bombs as the US had used in its earlier strike.
One of the main targets was the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. This is the largest US base in the Middle East. Around 10,000 American soldiers live and work there. It also serves as the main base for the US Central Command.
Iran said its attack on Al Udeid was “powerful and destructive.” Later, Qatar confirmed that there were no deaths or injuries from the missile strike. Still, Qatar strongly condemned the attack and said it has the right to respond if needed.
Iran also fired missiles at Ain al-Assad Air Base in western Iraq, where US troops are stationed. The damage caused by this strike has not been fully shared yet.
This situation has added more tension to the Middle East. Many countries are now worried that the fight between Iran and the United States might get worse. Saudi Arabia’s quick support for Qatar shows how serious and sensitive the matter has become.
