Prince Andrew Arrested at 66 as Long-Running Epstein Scandal Deepens

Post by : Saif Nasser

Prince Andrew, once seen as a trusted member of Britain’s royal family, has been arrested as part of an investigation connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The arrest took place on his 66th birthday, marking a historic and troubling moment for the monarchy.

He is the first senior royal to be arrested in nearly 400 years. Police say he is being investigated on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He has not been charged with a crime and has denied any wrongdoing.

Andrew was born in 1960, the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. As the second son, he was not expected to become king. Like many younger royal sons, he chose a military career. He served in the Royal Navy for 22 years and flew helicopters during the Falklands War in 1982.

After leaving the military, he became Britain’s special representative for international trade and investment in 2001. The job involved frequent travel around the world to promote British business. Because of his many trips, the press gave him the nickname “Air Miles Andy.”

The current investigation focuses on that time period. Recently released documents connected to Epstein suggest that Andrew may have shared official documents while serving as trade envoy. Authorities are reviewing these claims.

His friendship with Jeffrey Epstein has caused public concern for many years. Epstein was an American financier who was later convicted of sex crimes. Andrew has always denied any improper behavior. However, his ties to Epstein damaged his public image.

In 2019, after Epstein’s arrest, Andrew gave a television interview in which he tried to explain his relationship with Epstein. The interview was widely criticized. Many viewers felt he did not show enough understanding or sympathy for the victims. Soon after, he stepped back from royal duties.

In 2021, a woman named Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit against him in the United States, claiming he had sexual contact with her when she was 17. Andrew denied the claim but later reached a settlement without admitting wrongdoing. Giuffre died in 2025.

Over time, Andrew lost his military titles and charity roles. In October 2025, King Charles III removed his royal titles and asked him to leave his home at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

The release of millions of pages of Epstein-related files last month renewed public attention on the case. On Thursday, Andrew spent about 11 hours in police custody before being released while the investigation continues.

Despite losing his titles, he remains eighth in line to the British throne. Only a new law passed by Parliament could remove him from that position.

Andrew married Sarah Ferguson in 1986. They have two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The couple divorced in 1996 but have remained close.

This situation has placed fresh pressure on the royal family. The monarchy depends heavily on public trust and respect. As the investigation continues, many people are watching closely to see what happens next.

The case serves as a reminder that even members of royal families are not above the law. The outcome of this investigation may shape the future image of the British monarchy for years to come.
