The Hafeet Rail initiative, a collaboration of Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company, has achieved a significant milestone of 40% completion for the Oman-UAE railway link. This endeavor stands as one of the key infrastructural projects in the region.
Covering a distance of 238 kilometres, the railway aims to establish a swift and effective transport network. This will enhance trade operations, fortify supply chains, and catalyse economic development across Oman and the UAE.
Construction is rapidly advancing in critical areas, such as Al Ain, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The project traverses various landscapes, including urban centers and mountainous regions, necessitating sophisticated engineering elements like tunnels, bridges, and flood protection measures.
Over 27 million cubic metres of earthmoving have already been completed, while concrete work totals more than 100,000 cubic metres with substantial construction ongoing. Currently, there are approximately 80 structures being built, alongside 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.
Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, affirmed that the project’s progress is robust, showcasing the dedication of all stakeholders involved. He emphasized that this development is pivotal to Oman’s railway ambitions and highlights the capability of local talent.
Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, stated that reaching the 40% completion mark reflects substantial advancements. Commitment to maintaining rate of progress, safety standards, and quality remains paramount, with the project having accumulated 10 million hours of safe work without major incidents.
Cutting-edge railway systems, including state-of-the-art signaling and communication technologies, are being implemented to comply with international norms, enhancing operational efficiency and capacity.
This project will also pave the way for passenger services, facilitating travel for tourists and professionals alike. It resonates with national objectives such as Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE’s strategic development initiatives.
In summary, the Oman-UAE rail endeavor is poised to stimulate economic progress, reduce reliance on road transport, minimize emissions, and enhance connectivity in the region; thereby embodying a collective aspiration for a sustainable, integrated future between the two nations.
