Establishment of Gaza Peace Board by White House

Establishment of Gaza Peace Board by White House

Post by : Mina Rahman

The White House has officially launched a “Board of Peace,” aimed at overseeing the temporary administration of Gaza while a fragile ceasefire remains effective, initiated in October. This creation is part of broader strategies to manage the sensitive transition period to avoid renewed instability.

As per the White House’s outlined structure, the Board of Peace will supervise and not manage daily operations. Its key roles include strategic oversight, ensuring collaboration among stakeholders, and guiding administration decisions during this interim period. The board aims to maintain order, ensure governance continuity, and mitigate the chances of renewed conflict.

Prominent members appointed to the board consist of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law. Chairman Trump will oversee the board, ensuring the White House plays a crucial role in directing its approach.

The selection of both American and international figures is seen as an effort to combine diplomatic know-how with political authority. Advocates say this balance might effectively tackle the intricate political, security, and humanitarian challenges of Gaza during the ceasefire. They believe the board can enhance decision-making and clarify responsibilities during this uncertain time.

Nonetheless, the ceasefire remains fragile. Though major hostilities have paused since October, tensions persist, with worries about security issues, governance lapses, and the provision of necessary services. The Board of Peace is expected to closely observe the situation and adjust its strategies in response to evolving conditions.

White House representatives have stated that this board is a temporary setup linked specifically to the current ceasefire and transitional stage. Its future role will hinge on the developments within Gaza and the feasibility of establishing more permanent political solutions.

This announcement has garnered major attention, reflecting the significant implications for Gaza’s future and the notable individuals appointed to the board. As the ceasefire persists, the Board of Peace’s effectiveness will be crucially monitored, impacting stability in Gaza and wider regional diplomacy.
