Mona Singh Discusses OTT Liberation: From Jassi to Multifaceted Roles

Post by : Mina Rahman

Mona Singh stands out as an actress transitioning from traditional television to OTT platforms and films. Recently, she commented that these platforms enable performers to explore intricate characters, unhindered by the constraints of television censorship.

Mona expressed, “The online content we engage with would face severe restrictions on TV, limiting the portrayal of such layered characters. I’m thrilled to see OTT accepted widely. This is an exhilarating time for actors, writers, and creators alike — myriad stories await to be told, and there's so much more we can accomplish.”

Her career began with the iconic role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin in 2003. After a decade filled with soap operas, variety shows, and reality TV hosting, she transitioned into films and web series. Reflecting on her path, she remarked, “From Jassi to playing a detective in Mistry, alongside my role in seasons of Made in Heaven, and The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, my experience has been remarkable. Arriving in Mumbai alone made every success feel like an added blessing. I cherish challenging myself, and I consider myself fortunate to have such exceptional opportunities available on OTT today.”

Most recently, Mona featured in Aryan Khan’s The Ba**ds of Bollywood* on Netflix. Next, she will be seen in Border 2, which stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, set to hit theaters on January 25 for the Republic Day weekend.
