A French student now confronts significant legal challenges in Singapore after a video went viral showing him engaging in an inappropriate act involving a vending machine straw. This incident swiftly incited public indignation and captured the attention of authorities.

The individual, named Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien, reportedly recorded himself licking a straw from a fruit juice vending machine and subsequently returned it to the dispenser. The footage circulated on social media, eliciting a strong backlash from viewers.

The event reportedly occurred in a shopping center, prompting swift action from the vending machine provider, iJooz, which promptly replaced all 500 straws in the machine and implemented thorough hygiene inspections to safeguard public health.

The student has been charged with public nuisance and mischief. Under Singaporean legislation, public nuisance could lead to a maximum of three months in prison along with fines, while the mischief charge could result in a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
