The Hafeet Rail initiative, a collaboration of Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company, has reached the notable milestone of 40% completion on the Oman-UAE railway link. This essential project stands as a cornerstone for regional transport and infrastructure development.
Spanning 238 kilometers, the railway aims to establish a quick and efficient transport network. It is set to facilitate trade, bolster supply chains, and boost economic prosperity between Oman and the UAE.
Construction is advancing swiftly across key regions such as Al Ain, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The railway traverses diverse landscapes, including urban areas, industrial sites, mountainous terrains, and valleys, demanding sophisticated engineering solutions involving tunnels, bridges, and flood safeguards.
To date, over 27 million cubic meters of earthworks have been completed, with concrete output surpassing 100,000 cubic meters as primary construction continues. Approximately 80 infrastructures are currently under construction, complemented by 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.
Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, affirmed that progress is robust and illustrates the dedication of all partners involved. He noted that this initiative aligns with Oman’s railway ambitions and showcases the essential role of local talent in realizing the project.
Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, stated that hitting the 40% mark demonstrates significant advancement. He reiterated the commitment to prioritize speed, safety, and high-caliber results, noting that the project has recorded 10 million work hours without major incidents.
Cutting-edge railway systems incorporating signalling and communication technologies are being implemented to satisfy international standards. These enhancements will elevate efficiency, increase capacity, and ensure seamless operations between both nations.
The project also lays the groundwork for future passenger services, streamlining travel for both tourists and business professionals. It is in sync with national strategic frameworks such as Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE’s development strategies.
Ultimately, the Oman-UAE railway project is poised to drive economic growth, diminish reliance on road transport, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen connectivity in the region. It symbolizes a collective vision for a more integrated and sustainable future for both countries.
