Kim Jong Un’s Daughter Makes First Public Appearance at North Korea’s State Mausoleum

Kim Jong Un’s young daughter, Kim Ju Ae, made her first public appearance at North Korea’s Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on January 1, according to state media. She accompanied her father and mother, Ri Sol Ju, during the visit to honor former leaders, including her grandfather Kim Jong Il and great-grandfather Kim Il Sung.

The Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is a highly symbolic site where the country’s leaders are honored. Visits to the palace are reserved for top officials, so Ju Ae’s presence signals her growing visibility within the state. Analysts believe this could be a careful step toward introducing her as a potential future leader.

Over the past three years, Ju Ae has appeared more frequently in North Korean media. These appearances have led experts and South Korean intelligence agencies to speculate that she could eventually be prepared as the country’s fourth-generation leader. However, she has no official position, and her exact age has not been confirmed, though she is believed to have been born in the early 2010s.

Photographs released by the state show Ju Ae positioned between her parents in the main hall of the mausoleum. Experts, including Hong Min from the Korea Institute for National Unification, say North Korea is using such appearances to project an image of a stable family and dynastic continuity.

Ju Ae also took part in New Year celebrations and made her first public overseas visit to Beijing with her father last September. Analysts suggest that these carefully staged appearances are part of a longer plan to prepare her for future responsibilities, possibly highlighted during the upcoming ruling party Congress.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry, however, advised caution. Officials said it is too early to label Ju Ae as a successor due to her young age and lack of formal party membership. Experts also note that Kim Jong Un may have other children whose roles could also influence succession plans.

The visit reinforces North Korea’s focus on family-based leadership and the importance of dynastic tradition. While her exact role in the future remains uncertain, Kim Ju Ae’s public appearances mark a significant step in her gradual introduction to the nation and the international stage.
