Iran Asserts Full Preparedness for World Cup 2026 in the U.S.

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Iran has declared its national football team's complete readiness for a “proud and successful” showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

Speaking on state television, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohejerani confirmed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially communicated the team’s readiness to compete, following directives from the sports minister.

Recent military tensions in the region had raised questions about Iran's participation; however, officials have since emphasized that preparations are progressing smoothly.

FIFA has affirmed that Iran will adhere to the World Cup schedule and dismissed suggestions to move Iran's matches to alternative countries such as Mexico.

At a meeting with Iranian football officials and players on March 31 in Turkey, FIFA President Gianni Infantino reiterated support for Iran's preparations, including assistance in organizing an external training camp.

Despite ongoing conflicts suspending the domestic football league, the national team has recently resumed training in Tehran, as evidenced by official social media updates.

The Iranian squad is set to play its group-stage matches in the U.S., going up against New Zealand and Belgium at the Los Angeles stadium in Inglewood, before facing Egypt in Seattle.

The team is planned to reach Tucson, Arizona for its training camp by June 10, complying with FIFA guidelines for early arrival prior to the competition.

A major topic being discussed is the issuance of U.S. visas for the Iranian delegation, including Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, who was previously denied entry to the World Cup draw in Washington, D.C.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
