Dubai: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has revealed that five Indian match officials have been selected for the FIFA International List of Match Officials for the year 2026. This achievement underscores India’s strengthening presence in the international football landscape.
Highlighting this recognition, Rachana Kamani from Gujarat steps into the women's referees category, showcasing the advancement of female officials in Indian football. Notable names like Ashwin Kumar from Puducherry and Aditya Purkayastha from Delhi also join the men’s referees list, marking a pivotal moment in their officiating careers.
Further augmenting India's representation, Muralitharan Pandurangan (Puducherry) and Peter Christopher (Maharashtra) have been appointed as assistant referees, evidencing the country’s overall prowess in refereeing. It’s noteworthy that both Ashwin Kumar and Aditya Purkayastha have successfully completed the AFC Referee Academy course held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Rachana Kamani is currently participating in the same rigorous training session.
With the latest additions, India's roster for the FIFA International List 2026 reaches an impressive total of 19 match officials, reflecting the nation's dedication to fostering high-caliber refereeing talent.
2026 FIFA World Cup Draw and Group Insights
The draw for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup took place at the John F. Kennedy Center, officially initiating preparations for the tournament's first-ever expanded 48-team layout. Jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, this upcoming edition guarantees an exceptional quantity of matches alongside thrilling group-stage matchups.
Group C consists of Morocco, Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti — a fiercely competitive group in light of Morocco’s strong recent form.
Group L features England and Croatia, with Ghana and Panama competing to advance.
Group B may witness the inclusion of Italy against Canada, Qatar, and Switzerland, based on upcoming playoff results.
The tournament's opening match will feature host nation Mexico squaring off against South Africa, while Group A includes South Korea and a playoff qualifier from Denmark, North Macedonia, Czech Republic, and Ireland.
