His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, honored the six distinguished recipients of the Great Arab Minds 2025 awards at Dubai’s Museum of the Future.

The Great Arab Minds initiative serves as the premier Arab platform aimed at honoring extraordinary achievements within the Arab community. It underscores contributions that propel forward science, knowledge, and innovation, while putting Arab talent in the spotlight on both regional and global stages.

Sheikh Mohammed remarked that the initiative was launched to nurture both seasoned and budding Arab intellectuals, invest in their futures, and acknowledge excellence in various fields such as research, technology, health, the economy, culture, and architecture. He emphasized that the program also aims to foster pride in Arab accomplishments and motivate ongoing growth.

“Today, we celebrate the Great Arab Minds whose remarkable endeavors contribute to the advancement of civilization and the development of societies,” Sheikh Mohammed stated. “From the Museum of the Future, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting Arab talent dedicated to innovation and creativity.”

2025 Winners

Sheikh Mohammed extended his congratulations to the six award winners and encouraged them to inspire future generations:

  • Engineering and Technology: Professor Abbas El Gamal

  • Medicine: Dr. Nabil Seidah

  • Economics: Professor Badi Hani

  • Natural Sciences: Professor Majed Chergui

  • Architecture and Design: Dr. Suad Amiry

  • Literature and Arts: Professor Charbel Dagher

He expressed confidence in the Arab community’s capacity to advance in scientific research and cultural development, supported by robust institutions and ambitious youth across the region.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the Great Arab Minds initiative will consistently spotlight individuals who envision a prosperous future and chase their dreams without limits.

The ceremony was graced by several prominent UAE leaders, including Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, along with various ministers, senior officials, scientists, academics, and diplomats.

His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chair of the Higher Committee for the initiative, remarked that Great Arab Minds signifies a strategic commitment to promoting Arab intellectual and scientific advancements. He noted that this initiative embodies Sheikh Mohammed’s vision of instilling confidence in Arab potential and fostering proactive engagement in shaping the future.

“This initiative conveys a compelling message to millions of young Arabs to pursue excellence in research, innovation, and knowledge,” Al Gergawi added.

  • Medicine: Dr. Nabil Seidah was recognized for his contributions to cardiovascular health and cholesterol research.

  • Economics: Professor Badi Hani was honored for his pioneering work in econometrics and panel data analysis.

  • Engineering and Technology: Professor Abbas El Gamal received accolades for his significant contributions to network information theory.

  • Natural Sciences: Professor Majed Chergui was recognized for his research into light-matter interactions and ultrafast molecular dynamics.

Selection Methodology

The awardees were selected by six specialized committees composed of esteemed ministers, academics, scientists, and global experts. A separate Nominations Committee evaluated and shortlisted the candidates.

Affectionately dubbed the “Arab Nobel,” the Great Arab Minds initiative continues its third successive year in enhancing its role as a premier celebration of Arab excellence, inspiring future generations to contribute to global knowledge and human advancement.
