Kicking off on Friday, the Dubai International Aquatics Championship 2026 took place at the esteemed Hamdan Sports Complex, achieving a milestone with 1,670 male and female athletes from more than 100 countries.

This edition stands out as one of the largest aquatic events in the region, featuring over 80 clubs and academies from the UAE and beyond. Organisers anticipate a crowd of more than 4,000 spectators throughout the competition, which continues until Sunday evening.

Organised by the UAE Aquatics Federation in association with the Dubai Sports Council and Hamdan Sports Complex, the event holds official recognition from World Aquatics, also serving vital rankings for athletes aiming for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, enhancing its global relevance.

During the opening ceremony, Abdulwahid Al Jasmi, a board member of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, stressed that hosting such a prestigious event showcases the UAE's emerging reputation as a premier destination for international sporting competitions. He also pointed out the championship’s importance in fostering young talent and promoting competitive excellence.

"We're honored to welcome over 1,600 swimmers from around the world. This championship serves as an essential stage for athletes to display their abilities, gain international recognition, and progress in their sporting journeys," he remarked.

Al Jasmi further emphasized that the organizing committee, along with its partners, has prioritized excellent technical standards and collaboration to provide an exceptional experience for both participants and spectators.

Currently, the championship is showcasing fierce competitions across various categories, with both emerging talents and elite athletes demonstrating their prowess. This high level of engagement underscores the event's significance, cementing its place as an essential stop on the global aquatics calendar.
