Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that he will speak with United States President Donald Trump in a phone call scheduled for Monday. The discussion will focus on the war between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Erdogan shared this information while speaking to reporters in Istanbul on Friday. He said the conversation would cover peace efforts in Eastern Europe and the wider impact of conflicts in the Middle East. Turkey has maintained diplomatic contact with both Russia and Ukraine and has often offered to act as a mediator between the two sides.
Turkey has played an important role since the war in Ukraine began. It has hosted talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials in the past and helped broker agreements related to grain exports through the Black Sea. Erdogan has repeatedly said that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and cooperation.
Along with Ukraine, Erdogan said Gaza will also be a key topic during his call with Trump. The Gaza conflict has caused large scale destruction and loss of civilian lives, drawing concern from many countries. Turkey has been vocal in calling for a ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and a fair political solution to the long standing Palestinian issue.
Erdogan also confirmed that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend an upcoming meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris. This group includes countries that support Ukraine politically and militarily. Turkey participation shows its continued engagement in diplomatic efforts related to the conflict.
The planned talks between Erdogan and Trump come at a time when global tensions remain high. Wars in Ukraine and Gaza continue to affect global security, energy markets, and humanitarian conditions. Leaders around the world are under pressure to find solutions that can reduce violence and bring stability.
By holding direct talks with the US president, Erdogan appears to be positioning Turkey as an active diplomatic player seeking dialogue on multiple fronts. The outcome of the conversation may shape future cooperation between Turkey and the United States on some of the most pressing global crises of the moment.
