Egypt and Qatar Push for Gaza Ceasefire with US Support

Egypt and Qatar are working closely to solve problems and bring peace to the Gaza Strip. They want to reach a ceasefire, which means stopping the fighting for a while. Both countries said this in a joint statement on Sunday.

Their efforts are based on a plan from US envoy Steve Witkoff. The plan is to help start indirect talks between the groups involved in the conflict. Egypt, Qatar, and the US are all working together to fix the problems that are slowing down the peace talks.

Egypt and Qatar asked everyone involved to act responsibly and support the people trying to bring peace. They want these talks to end the crisis in Gaza and bring stability to the whole region.

They hope the talks will lead to a temporary 60-day truce soon. This truce is seen as a first step toward a longer, permanent peace agreement.

The two countries said this truce would help end the serious humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It would allow borders to open and let humanitarian aid and relief supplies come into Gaza to help the people there.

They also said the ceasefire should be the start of rebuilding Gaza. This fits with a plan agreed on at the Cairo Arab summit on March 4, 2025.

Witkoff’s plan offers a 60-day ceasefire. It includes releasing 10 Israeli captives in stages: four on the first day, two after 30 days, and four after 60 days. It also includes the return of Israeli bodies in steps. But the plan does not promise that the ceasefire will last longer than 60 days.

In short, Egypt and Qatar are working with the US to stop the fighting in Gaza for 60 days, help people in need, and start talks for lasting peace.
