Abu Dhabi's Ambitious Plan for 9,000 Affordable Homes

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has joined forces with Aldar to undertake the development of two significant residential communities, set to introduce 9,000 affordable rental units across the emirate.

These initiatives, situated in Mohamed Bin Zayed (MBZ) City and Baniyas, form part of the government-led Value Housing Programme, which seeks to improve access to quality housing. This project is aligned with Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision for urban growth focusing on inclusive communities.

Within this partnership, Aldar will oversee the development, leasing, and management processes, while DMT will grant long-term land leasing rights. The overall development value of these projects is estimated at AED 2.8 billion.

These new housing developments will further expand Aldar’s growing portfolio, which has reached AED 20.1 billion and includes prominent residential projects on Yas Island and in Al Shamkha.

Community and Strategic Developments

The Baniyas project will be ideally situated along the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain (E22) highway, featuring over 30 residential buildings. It will combine residential spaces with retail options, recreational spots, and ample green areas.

Meanwhile, the MBZ City initiative will provide a mixed-use community with both single-occupancy units and multi-tenant apartments, inclusive of necessary retail and community amenities for daily life.

Commitment to Accessibility and Quality Living

Expected to be completed by 2029, both communities are designed with an emphasis on accessibility and convenience, providing direct links to major roadways and public transport.

Residents will enjoy well-managed living spaces, modern amenities, well-kept greens, and easy access to essential services, ensuring a comfortable and affordable lifestyle.

Leadership Commitment

Officials stated that this partnership underscores Abu Dhabi’s dedication to addressing the rising demand for diverse housing solutions. Additionally, it contributes to broader societal aims, promoting community development and enhancing living standards.

As the population in the emirate continues to grow, this initiative represents a crucial advance towards providing inclusive, accessible, and affordable housing for a diverse range of residents.
