Senegal's Football Federation Voices Concerns About AFCON Final Arrangements

Post by : Mina Rahman

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has raised significant worries regarding the management of its national team in Morocco ahead of the anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against the home team.

In a statement released early on Saturday, the FSF pointed out deficiencies in security measures upon the team’s arrival in Rabat, inadequate accommodation conditions, challenges with training sites, and the limited availability of tickets for Senegalese supporters.

The federation has called upon the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the local organizers to respond swiftly to guarantee fairness, equitable treatment, and appropriate security during this significant continental event.

After arriving by train from Tangier to Rabat on Friday, Senegal’s players faced what the federation termed a “clear lack of adequate security,” resulting in overcrowding and unnecessary danger.

The FSF noted that they had to file a formal complaint to obtain acceptable hotel accommodations but did not reveal the specifics regarding the initial lodging arrangements.

Additionally, the federation rejected the use of the Mohammed VI Complex for team training—where Morocco has been stationed throughout the tournament—questioning the fairness of this terrain. The precise location for Senegal’s training is still pending confirmation.

Concerns also arose about ticket sales, with Senegal only able to secure 2,850 tickets, a figure that the federation deemed “insufficient” given the high demand and restrictions that hinder Senegalese fans.

The final match will occur at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, which has a capacity of 69,500. Morocco aims to conclude a 50-year title drought with strong local support, while Senegal, the reigning champions of 2021, will pursue their second Africa Cup victory.

Through the public release of these complaints, the FSF aims to foster transparency and safeguard the interests of its national team as this crucial football event approaches.
