Colombia and Venezuela Leaders Agree to Meet Soon to Strengthen Cooperation

Post by : Saif Nasser

Colombia and Venezuela are preparing for a high-level meeting to improve relations between the two neighboring countries. Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez and Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro have agreed to meet soon to discuss important issues affecting both nations.

Rodríguez said she spoke with Petro over the phone, and they agreed to hold a meeting at the level of heads of state. The exact date and location have not been announced. The talks will focus on economic cooperation, energy projects, and security along the shared border.

President Petro said he invited Rodríguez to meet in the city of Cúcuta. The two countries share a long border of more than 2,200 kilometers, and improving border security and local development has been a key concern in recent years.

The agreement to meet comes during a time of political change in Venezuela. Rodríguez became interim president after former leader Nicolás Maduro was removed from office. This change has opened new opportunities for Venezuela’s foreign relations, which were strained in the past.

Both leaders have emphasized the need to strengthen ties. They hope to build better economic links, improve energy cooperation, and address security issues that affect people living along the border. Petro also suggested joint projects to improve basic services in vulnerable border communities.

The meeting is seen as a positive step toward cooperation after years of tension. Leaders from both countries hope the talks will lead to agreements that benefit citizens and make the border region safer and more prosperous.
