The Women’s Race was successfully held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as part of the 10th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship.
Drawing top female cyclists from both local and international circuits, the 93 km race featured a record prize pool of AED 460,000. The event showcased a thrilling showdown across the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.
Lorena Wiebes of Dubai Police/Esaad emerged victorious with a stellar tactical display, earning AED 100,000. Her teammate Femke Markus took second place with a prize of AED 70,000, while Nina Kessler from Dubai Residence Cycling Club A secured third and won AED 50,000.
In team standings, Dubai Police/Esaad claimed the top spot, followed by Dubai Residence Cycling Club A and Dubai Residence Cycling Club B.
Mouza Al Mansoori was first in the Emirati Women’s Over-40 category, while in the Open Women’s Over-40, Yulia Polevaya from Airwerks Team 1 came in first.
Starting from the Al Qudra Endurance Village in Saih Al Salam, the race traversed significant landmarks before concluding in the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. It received global broadcast coverage via television and digital media.
The event was officially initiated by Mohammed Al-Mousa, member of the Supreme Organising Committee and Chairman of the Technical Committee.
Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his unwavering support. He highlighted the important role of women's participation and the championship's goal to inspire more athletes in upcoming editions.
He noted that two races in this 10th edition are specifically aimed at women, demonstrating Dubai’s commitment to advancing women’s sports and empowering female athletes.
Strategic partners for the Al Salam Cycling Championship include Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Government of Dubai Media Office, UAE Cycling Federation, and Dubai Sports Channel.
Further desert races for both men and women are scheduled for 31 January and 1 February, with additional race announcements forthcoming.
