7 Winter Drinks That Keep You Healthy and Hydrated, Says Nutritionist

Post by : Saif Nasser

Winter is a season when people often forget to drink enough water. Because the weather is cold, the body does not feel thirsty, and people spend more time resting under blankets. This leads to low hydration without anyone noticing it. When the body is not well hydrated, it becomes tired, dry, and sluggish. To avoid these problems, healthy drinks with herbs and spices can be added to the daily routine. These drinks do not replace water, but they help maintain energy, immunity, and comfort during the winter. Nutritionist Rashmeet Kaur Gupta explains that these drinks work especially well during winter because pollution levels are also very high in many Indian cities. Pollution causes issues like congestion, cough, itchy throat, and breathing discomfort. While no drink can completely clean the lungs, warm and nutrient-rich beverages can soothe irritation and support overall wellness. They can also help digestion, strengthen the immune system, and make the body feel refreshed.

One of the drinks she suggests is fenugreek seed water. Methi seeds have natural compounds that help reduce mucus in the body and make breathing easier. They also support digestion because they contain soluble fibre that holds moisture in the gut. To make this drink, methi seeds are soaked overnight in water and consumed the next morning. Another helpful drink is mulethi tea, which is known for soothing the throat. Mulethi contains a natural substance that reduces inflammation and helps calm cough and irritation caused by pollution. It can be made by boiling small mulethi sticks in water for a few minutes.

Amla and turmeric shot is another option that works like a morning tonic. Amla is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, while turmeric helps manage inflammation caused by pollution or seasonal allergies. Mixing amla juice with turmeric, black pepper, and warm water makes a simple and effective drink. Tulsi and cinnamon infusion is also recommended because tulsi supports respiratory health, and cinnamon helps control blood sugar levels. When boiled with water, these ingredients create a warm drink that comforts the throat and chest.

Lemon ginger water is useful for those who want better immunity and easier breathing. Lemon provides vitamin C, and ginger helps reduce congestion. Adding rock salt helps restore electrolytes and strengthens hydration. Another soothing drink is cumin-coriander-fennel tea, which is good for digestion and reduces bloating. Boiling these three seeds in water and drinking it warm helps the stomach feel lighter and more comfortable, especially in winter when meals are heavier.

Electrolyte drinks are also important because water alone sometimes cannot meet the body's hydration needs. Effervescent electrolyte tablets dissolve easily in water and help the body absorb minerals quickly. These minerals are essential for keeping energy levels steady and preventing dehydration. The nutritionist advises people to pay attention to their personal health conditions before trying any new remedy. Some drinks may not be suitable for individuals with special medical situations. Pregnant women, especially, should consult a doctor before adding these beverages to their routine.

Overall, these simple winter drinks made from common Indian ingredients can help maintain good health during cold weather and high pollution levels. They are easy to prepare, comforting to sip, and support the body in staying hydrated, strong, and active through the season.
