Barcelona were forced into a late recovery on Wednesday, coming from behind to secure a 3-3 draw against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Brugge struck early when Nicolo Tresoldi finished a slick pass from winger Carlos Forbs, with Forbs repeatedly probing the visitors' high defensive line.
Barca responded swiftly when Ferran Torres converted a clever move created by Fermin Lopez. Yet Brugge's pressure persisted — Forbs added a second for the hosts before a Tzolis own goal brought Barcelona back on level terms. Teenager Lamine Yamal, bouncing back from quieter displays, proved decisive by crafting openings and providing the final pass for the equaliser.
Defensive instability remained an issue for Barcelona throughout the encounter. Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia each struck the frame of the goal, underlining Barca's attacking threat but defensive lapses. Coach Hansi Flick acknowledged the problems while defending the club's approach: "We want to play (how) our DNA is... we are Barca," he said, reiterating the prominence of a high defensive line in their strategy.
Yamal's slick interplay with Lopez produced a standout moment, as the youngster deftly flicked the ball past goalkeeper Nordin Jackers into the bottom corner. Jackers later kept out another attempt destined for the top corner, but Yamal's overall display stood out and drew praise from supporters and team-mates.
The final minutes were fraught with controversy. Brugge believed they had secured victory when Romeo Vermant tapped into an empty net, only for VAR to rule the goal out after determining Vermant had fouled goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Earlier in the match, a possible penalty for Forbs was overturned following a VAR review, removing another opportunity for the hosts.
Reflecting on the outcome, Frenkie de Jong said: "It's a game I think we have to win, but we have to do things a lot better… if you let in three goals, it's difficult to win." Eric Garcia added that Brugge "created a lot of danger" with relatively little, highlighting the defence’s need for immediate improvement.
The draw keeps Barcelona's Champions League hopes alive but exposes recurring defensive concerns. With injuries sidelining several key players, Flick's side will require tactical tweaks and resilience to progress in the competition.
