Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has arrived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to take part in the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum. His attendance signals Nigeria’s active engagement at a major international meeting of city administrators, private-sector leaders and policy experts.
A statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said Wike was welcomed by the Nigerian Consul General in Dubai, Zayyanu Ibrahim, alongside senior officers from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) who had travelled earlier.
Wike is due to chair a high-level panel on Tuesday that will focus on the development priorities for the Federal Capital Territory. He will outline Nigeria’s urban strategies and exchange perspectives with peers on sustainable urbanisation, infrastructure delivery and attracting foreign investment.
The 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit, organised by Brisbane City Council, convenes mayors, municipal officials, business leaders and innovators. Under the theme “Collaborate, Inspire, Transform,” the summit emphasises creating “Centres of Connection,” promoting sustainability and raising urban living standards.
Observers note that Wike’s participation underlines his expanding role in urban governance. He is expected to hold bilateral talks with international stakeholders on strengthening Abuja’s planning framework, exploring smart-city solutions and unlocking long-term investment for the FCT.
The summit provides Nigeria a platform to present its vision for inclusive urban growth, modern infrastructure and transnational cooperation, reinforcing ambitions to position the Federal Capital Territory as a strategic hub for development and partnership.
