A delegation from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has toured the UAE field hospital in Rafah, located within the southern Gaza Strip, to evaluate the humanitarian medical support extended to Palestinians amid the current humanitarian crisis.
This team included Luca Pigozzi, Acting Head of WHO's Sub-Office in Gaza, along with Roy Cosico, WHO's Technical Officer for Emergency Medical Teams (EMT), and Heba Al Najjar, the Coordinator for WHO Emergency Medical Teams in the occupied Palestinian territory.
During the visit, the WHO delegation was received by Ali Al Shehhi, the Head of the UAE Mission in Gaza as part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 and the Director of the UAE field hospital. Al Shehhi updated the team on the vital healthcare services, treatment programs, and ongoing initiatives to bolster Gaza's healthcare infrastructure.
He emphasized the extensive medical support provided to the injured and patients across Gaza, along with the medical supplies dispatched to local hospitals through the initiative. This effort reflects the UAE's broader humanitarian mission to assist Palestinians affected by ongoing conflict.
The delegation explored various sectors of the UAE field hospital, reviewing treatment facilities, surgical units, and specialized healthcare services. They observed the UAE medical team's relentless efforts in delivering essential healthcare and emergency assistance to those in dire need.
WHO officials commended the UAE's humanitarian efforts and recognized the critical role of the field hospital in providing life-saving medical care to the injured in Gaza. They applauded the commitment of the medical staff and the quality of healthcare services offered, despite the prevailing challenges.
In response, Ali Al Shehhi reiterated the UAE's pledge to support Gaza's healthcare sector and ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations. He reaffirmed the UAE's mission to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people through ongoing medical and relief efforts.
Since its inception, the UAE field hospital in Rafah, along with the Emirates Medical Centre for Primary Care in Al Mawasi, Khan Younis, has rendered healthcare services to nearly 97,000 patients from across the region. These initiatives illustrate the UAE's steadfast commitment to humanitarian assistance and healthcare support for Palestinians during this crisis.
