How Virat Kohli’s Simple Plant-Based Diet Keeps Him Fit and Strong

Post by : Saif Nasser

Virat Kohli is known for his discipline, strength, and unmatched fitness. But according to a Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon, his real power begins not in the gym, but in his kitchen. Dr. Manan Vora recently analysed Kohli’s diet in a social media post, explaining how the cricketer’s food choices changed over the years and how these changes helped him perform better.

Kohli once enjoyed meat at almost every meal and was famous for his love of butter chicken. But an intense health issue forced him to take a closer look at his eating habits. In an old interview shared by Dr. Manan, Kohli says his stomach had become extremely acidic. Doctors advised him to reduce meat and switch to lighter, plant-based foods. He followed this advice, and soon he noticed a major difference. His energy during matches rose to “120%,” and he said he no longer felt stiffness in his body.

Dr. Manan highlights how surprising this shift was. Kohli, who once depended on meat for protein, changed nearly 90% of his diet to plant-based foods. Yet his performance did not fall. Instead, he became fitter, stronger, and more resilient on the field. The surgeon explains that Kohli now depends on high-quality plant proteins such as lentils, legumes, tofu, quinoa, and beans. These foods provide all the amino acids needed for muscle repair and strength.

But the surgeon adds that the secret behind Kohli’s diet is not just protein. What truly sets his diet apart is how clean and simple it is. Kohli avoids foods that cause inflammation or slow recovery. This includes oily, spicy, deep-fried, and heavy dishes. By staying away from these foods, he keeps his digestion smooth, his recovery fast, and his body fat under control.

Kohli himself has admitted that his meals are not fancy or exciting. They often look plain and basic, but he chooses them for their purpose, not for taste. His meals use very little oil, very little seasoning, and are built around whole, natural foods. This approach helps him stay light on his feet, maintain sharp focus, and build stamina for long matches.

Dr. Manan says this discipline is what keeps Kohli at an elite fitness level. Every part of his daily diet is designed to support strength, speed, and long-term health. His plant-based meals help reduce inflammation, support the gut, and protect his muscles. His simple carb choices give him steady energy during demanding matches. And his strict “no oil, no spice” rule prevents unnecessary strain on the body.

Kohli’s transformation shows that great performance is not only about training hard, but also about eating smart. His clean diet, combined with regular workouts and dedication, has allowed him to stay one of the top athletes in the world. His choices remind fans that food can be one of the strongest tools for health and performance.

As Dr. Manan explains, Kohli’s results are proof that a plant-heavy, simple, and clean diet can support even the most demanding athletic routines. It is not the excitement of the meal but the discipline behind it that shapes a champion.
