Verstappen Narrows Norris' Lead for Abu Dhabi Showdown

Post by : Mina Rahman

Max Verstappen sparked excitement in the championship race with a superb win that trimmed Lando Norris’ advantage to merely 12 points ahead of the upcoming season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Finishing the race in 1:24:38.241, Verstappen left Oscar Piastri nearly eight seconds behind, while Carlos Sainz claimed the third spot for Williams. Norris struggled, finishing fourth after an early tactical blunder.

The race took a turn on lap seven when a collision between Nico Hulkenberg and Pierre Gasly caused a slowdown, prompting early pit stops for most drivers. Only Piastri and Norris remained on track, meaning the McLaren duo would require two stops after the restart on lap ten.

An explosive start saw Verstappen pass Norris at Turn 1 and keep pace with Piastri before the incident. Piastri's resilient performance earned him second place, while Norris managed to overtake Kimi Antonelli at the end to secure two crucial points. George Russell completed the race in sixth position for Mercedes.

“Everything is still possible now,” remarked Verstappen. “I’m quite relaxed about it.”

Piastri, now trailing Norris by 16 points, acknowledged the need for a revised strategy. “I gave it my all, but tonight wasn’t my race. We’ll have to analyze what could have been done differently,” he stated.

Norris, however, maintains control over his championship aspirations, requiring just a top-three finish in Abu Dhabi to secure his inaugural title.

“Today was not our finest performance,” Norris admitted. “But I have achieved strong results leading up to this. I’ll take it in stride and aim for a better outcome next weekend.”
