U.S. Forces Strike Suspected Drug Vessel in Eastern Pacific, Two Killed

Post by : Raina Nasser

The U.S. military carried out a precision strike on a vessel suspected of transporting illegal drugs in international waters of the Eastern Pacific on Tuesday, resulting in two fatalities, officials reported. The operation was publicly confirmed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who said it followed intelligence pointing to the ship’s role in narcotics transport along a recognised trafficking corridor.

Hegseth explained that the action was taken after multiple intelligence sources corroborated the vessel’s involvement in large-scale drug shipments. Authorities said the craft had been tracked operating on established smuggling lanes that have long been used by transnational traffickers.

U.S. officials described the strike as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle international drug networks that use maritime routes across the Pacific. They emphasised that the mission was planned to target the illicit operation while seeking to minimise danger to civilians and commercial maritime traffic.

The episode underscores heightened concerns over maritime security in the Eastern Pacific, a strategic corridor for illicit drug movement. U.S. authorities said they will continue active monitoring and take further measures to counter organised criminal groups that threaten regional and global stability.
