US Black Friday Online Sales Reach $8.6 Billion as Consumers Opt for Convenience

Post by : Raina Nasser

United States: On Black Friday 2025, online sales skyrocketed to $8.6 billion as shoppers chose to enjoy the convenience of shopping from home rather than navigating the chill to visit brick-and-mortar stores. According to Adobe Analytics, by 6:30 pm ET, online sales had increased by 9.4 percent from last year, underscoring the trend towards digital holiday shopping. Adobe's comprehensive data, derived from over 1 trillion visits to retail websites, shows a growing reliance on smartphones and laptops for securing bargains.

While many anticipated bustling crowds at stores during the post-Thanksgiving weekend, in-person shopping remained relatively quiet. Caution prevailed among consumers due to ongoing inflation, trade policy uncertainties, and a sluggish labor market. Nevertheless, Adobe forecasts that total Black Friday online spending could reach between $11.7 billion and $11.9 billion, paving the way for a potential new record for online holiday shopping in the US.

The online shopping boom is expected to extend throughout the weekend. Adobe predicts Saturday spending will hit $5.5 billion—a 3.8 percent rise from 2024—and $5.9 billion on Sunday, showcasing a 5.4 percent increase as consumers benefit from continued high discounts. Cyber Monday is anticipated to emerge as the season's peak day, with projected sales hitting $14.2 billion, demonstrating a 6.3 percent growth compared to last year.

Major US retailers are witnessing a remarkable surge in online traffic and have adapted their logistics to accommodate the increasing demand. Experts attribute this shift to the convenience and safety of online shopping, along with evolving consumer preferences. Contrary to earlier predictions of a slowdown in holiday online sales, Adobe's findings indicate the continuing dominance of online retail during Black Friday.

As shoppers engage in this bustling holiday weekend, they are advised to remain vigilant to ward off scams and practice safe online shopping.
