In a significant move for the clean-fuel industry, the UAE is embarking on establishing its inaugural independent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) testing and certification lab in Fujairah. This initiative comes as MENA Biofuels has officially partnered with Saybolt International, heralding a new era in the nation’s efforts toward aviation decarbonisation, especially following notable discussions during ADIPEC 2025.
The facility, located in the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, will adhere to globally recognized testing standards. Once it begins operations, it will offer independent validation to ensure all SAF produced in the UAE meets international aviation fuel standards, thus catering to both domestic and international markets. This establishment is critical for creating a transparent and traceable SAF value chain within the nation.
This agreement enhances MENA Biofuels' collaborations with key national energy entities established during ADIPEC 2025 and the Dubai Airshow. Recent MoUs with Emarat, ENOC, ADNOC, and Evertree have laid the foundational framework for a holistic ecosystem that encompasses feedstock provision, production, testing, certification, and delivery processes aimed at airlines. Such developments underline the UAE's evolving leadership in the future of sustainable aviation fuel in the region.
The new lab will utilize state-of-the-art technology for fuel analysis, lifecycle emission checks, and feedstock traceability, positioning Fujairah as a pivotal center for SAF certification. This initiative aligns with the country's plans to inaugurate its first commercial SAF production facility in the emirate, representing a crucial step in affirming the UAE’s status as a hub for sustainable fuel innovation and export-level quality assurance.
By creating this independent laboratory, the UAE enhances its capability to satisfy the growing global demand for reliable and verified sustainable aviation fuel, marking another significant stride towards cleaner skies and a competitive aviation future.
