UAE Introduces Waqf Golden Visa for Donors Supporting Humanitarian Projects

Post by : Raina Nasser

The United Arab Emirates has introduced a new category under its Golden Visa programme, allowing donors who contribute to Waqf or humanitarian projects to be nominated for long-term residency. This new Waqf Golden Visa aims to recognise individuals supporting Islamic charitable endowments and impactful humanitarian initiatives. The UAE’s Golden Visa for Waqf donors provides a 10-year renewable residency, expanding opportunities for philanthropists and investors committed to social welfare and community development. With this initiative, the UAE continues to position itself as a global hub for humanitarian work and charitable contributions, offering recognition and benefits to those making a meaningful impact.

The Waqf Golden Visa enables individuals who donate to certified Waqf or humanitarian projects to gain residency without the need for a local sponsor. Beneficiaries of the Waqf Golden Visa can live, work, and study freely in the UAE while also sponsoring their immediate family members. Applicants under this Golden Visa category can maintain their residency even if they stay abroad for more than six months, a flexibility that ensures donors remain connected to both the UAE and their philanthropic projects. By offering the Waqf Golden Visa, the UAE acknowledges the vital role of charitable donors in advancing education, healthcare, and social welfare through Waqf funds, ensuring transparency and Sharia-compliant management of resources.

Eligibility for the Waqf Golden Visa requires a minimum donation of AED 2 million to a recognised Waqf or humanitarian project. Applicants must hold at least a university degree and be nominated by Awqaf Dubai or an authorised humanitarian organisation. The UAE Golden Visa for Waqf donors ensures that contributions are impactful, and a monitoring committee oversees the initiatives to track social outcomes. Through this structured approach, the Waqf Golden Visa promotes sustained investment in community development while offering donors long-term residency and recognition as key contributors to the UAE’s humanitarian efforts.

The application process for the Waqf Golden Visa is straightforward, with prospective donors able to submit applications through the GDRFA Smart Services portal or at any Amer Centre in Dubai. Nominations are first obtained from Awqaf Dubai or authorised humanitarian bodies, after which applications are reviewed by a joint GDRFA-Awqaf committee. Successful applicants receive the 10-year Waqf Golden Visa, gaining both residency rights and formal acknowledgment for their contribution to humanitarian projects. This new UAE Golden Visa underscores the country’s commitment to attracting individuals who support societal welfare while strengthening the link between philanthropy and residency privileges.

By introducing the Waqf Golden Visa, the UAE sets a precedent for recognising donors to charitable endowments and humanitarian projects. The Golden Visa enhances opportunities for international and local contributors, providing a secure and long-term residency path. With its focus on Waqf and humanitarian work, the UAE Golden Visa programme encourages more individuals to invest in social initiatives, promoting sustainable development, and community well-being. This innovative approach to the Golden Visa reinforces the UAE’s image as a nation that values philanthropy, community service, and meaningful contributions to society.
