The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation has officially endorsed the participation of female riders in tent pegging championships, marking a significant step in the nation's ongoing commitment to achieving gender equality in sports. This initiative is part of the UAE's broader strategy to bolster women's involvement in all equestrian disciplines, both regionally and globally.
The Federation is in the process of establishing a national women's team to compete in both local and international tent pegging events. This effort is designed to showcase the capabilities of Emirati women and their proficiency in a sport requiring accuracy, bravery, and collaboration.
In a recent statement, the Federation commended two exceptional female riders, Sheikha Mubarak Al Mansouri and Meera Al Khazraji, who recently participated in tent pegging events held in Boudheib Village, Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai International Endurance City. Their performances have been described as inspirational, motivating many other women to explore the sport.
Dr. Ghanem Mohammed Al Hajeri, Secretary-General of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, highlighted that this important decision epitomizes the Federation's relentless pursuit to empower women and nurture their competitive talents. He affirmed that the Federation would persist in implementing initiatives that facilitate access for women to professional training, competitions, and a nurturing sports environment.
Dr. Al Hajeri pointed out that women are gaining increasing prominence and opportunity within the UAE's equestrian sector. This initiative not only fosters gender balance but also bolsters the UAE's global standing as an advocate for equity and excellence across various fields. By inviting more women into equestrian sports, the Federation is contributing to the nation's vision of promoting social growth through athletics.
Tent pegging is a traditional sport with rich cultural significance in the region, demanding dexterity and control as riders aim to strike small ground targets with a lance or sword while galloping. Incorporating women into these competitions signifies a progressive shift towards inclusivity within the sport, balancing heritage with modernity.
Dr. Al Hajeri added that the women's empowerment strategy from the Federation includes establishing a safe and supportive training environment for female competitors. It will also bolster initiatives to entice young girls to embrace equestrian sports from an early age. “We aim to cultivate a new generation of skilled women riders who can proudly represent the UAE on the global stage,” he remarked.
He further noted that Emirati women have made considerable achievements in endurance racing, show jumping, and various other equestrian disciplines, demonstrating their talent and commitment. Allowing women to participate in tent pegging events will fortify the UAE's position in the global equestrian arena.
The accomplishments of Sheikha Mubarak Al Mansouri and Meera Al Khazraji serve as an inspiration for aspiring female riders across the UAE. Their success illustrates that women can compete adeptly alongside men in demanding equestrian challenges.
The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation has committed to fostering the growth of equestrian sports by organizing more inclusive events and introducing new training programs for both male and female athletes. These measures align with the UAE's broader commitment to nurturing athletic excellence while honoring cultural heritage.
Integrating women into tent pegging championships is not just a sporting advancement but a societal triumph for the UAE. It underscores the nation's unwavering dedication to promoting equality, empowering women, and showcasing Emirati talent on the international front.
Through these initiatives, the UAE continues to affirm its leadership in supporting women's roles in sports, while also honoring its rich equestrian traditions.
