Seventh Trial Race at Meydan Sees 48 Horses Compete

Post by : Mara Rahim

The Emirates Racing Authority has reported that 48 horses, a mix of purebred Arabians and mixed breeds, participated in the seventh trial race at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. This trial, an important precursor to the competitive racing season, covered a distance of 1,000 meters and took place last evening.

The trial race program comprised seven events, five of which were exclusively for purebred Arabian horses, featuring 34 competitors. The remaining two races saw 14 mixed-breed horses that were competing for the first time, providing these newcomers a crucial opportunity to gain exposure on a competitive track.

Nineteen horses made their debut in three specific races for purebred Arabians, while two additional races included 15 horses that had prior racing experience. This blend of novice and seasoned racers created a robust environment conducive to training and growth across various racing levels.

Rashid Al Balushi, a supervisory committee member of the Emirates Racing Authority, emphasized the significance of weekly trial races, which occur every Wednesday at different tracks nationwide. These trials play a vital role in evaluating the preparedness of horses, trainers, and riders, while promoting safety and fairness in forthcoming official races.

Al Balushi also reaffirmed the commitment of the Emirates Racing Authority to uphold high standards in the UAE's equestrian sports. This systematic approach guarantees equitable opportunities for both purebred Arabians and mixed-breeds, enhancing performance levels and solidifying the UAE's reputation in international horse racing.

The prior race held at Jebel Ali Racecourse featured 45 horses across multiple distances, also showing noteworthy participation from the equestrian community. Meydan Racecourse is recognized globally for its state-of-the-art facilities that prioritize the safety and comfort of horses, riders, and audiences.

These trials grant trainers essential evaluations of horses’ conditions ahead of major competitions, allowing them to focus on improvement areas. Owners and trainers often use insights gathered from these events to better prepare for high-stakes races later in the season.

The Emirates Racing Authority’s commitment to regular trials is evident in its efforts to enhance the professionalism and international standing of the UAE's equestrian sector. By fostering fair competition and providing continuous support, the Authority ensures that every race adheres to global racing standards.

As these trials advance, the UAE is fortifying its status as a premier hub for horse racing and breeding, while highlighting the cultural importance of Arabian horses in the region's heritage. Upcoming trial events will continue to showcase the nation's dedication to equestrian excellence.
